In the beautiful town of Thessaloniki there is the Municipality of Evosmos, one of the biggest in town. The Cultural Center was established in 1979 and it has developed numerous and various activities to show in the area of culture, such as plastic arts, literary expression, music, dance, theatre, who bring out and promote the cultural values in the area. The Department of Greek Traditional Dances is one of the first departments in the Cultural Center.

            It comprises of five dance departments that number 200 dances. All the members of the dancing group are amateur dancers. Dances from various areas of Greece are presented. The dance performance company has taken part in many festivals and events in the Greek territory and in other countries. Wherever it appeared it received the most complimentary comments.

The Department of Greek Traditional Dances except the department for shows with the experienced dancers, has a group for beginners, children and teenagers.

            Certainly, the aim of the department of Greek Traditional Dances is not merely the learning and the presentation of traditional dances but also the effort to make the best possible approach to and elevation of Greek Tradition.

            The structural elements of this effort are the learning of songs and customs as well as other elements that tend to be forgotten.
